ICC Bulletin Board
- The ICC governing board and charter were established late in 2006 to focus on the specific needs of the India Cultural Center and accelerate its progress. The board members are trying to explore the feasibility of getting the building up and operational within TWO YEARS.
- ICC has been organizing cultural programs of high quality
for the past several
years. We have through this legacy of outstanding events drawn the
attention of many local organizations, the University of Utah and the
Salt Lake community at large.
- The location for the ICC building has been proposed on the
land south
east of the temple (south of the priest’s house, and on the
east side of the parking lot) allocated for ICC for this
purpose.
- The
most practical approach to the center is to build it in phases; Phase I
would be a building of a modest size of approximately 5000 square feet
that will allow for the primary uses selected for the building. This
building will consist of a large hall to accommodate approximately 250
+ people. The design will be such that the building can be easily
expanded (as part of Phase II) to twice this size in the future.
The design of the building will include:
* A lobby with portraits of great Indians over the ages. It can be use to showcase projects done by the children of the community.
* A library and media center with books on Indian history, culture, the arts, cookery, magazines both English and in regional Indian languages and similar audio and video material. Audio and video equipment and computers will be available.
* A fun sports center with traditional Indian and other popular games.
* Rooms for use for language, music, dance classes,Balvihar and similar activities.
* A modest warming kitchen room similar to what we see in many community buildings in the valley. - A questionnaire about the building has been prepared for the community whose support is ESSENTIAL to make this project a success.
- One of our first projects has to been to create an ICC
webpage –Coordinators Vijaya Achan and Naagesh
Padamanaban.
This webpage will soon be filled with informative and interesting content including progress on the Center, story, history and personality columns and the posting of cultural events organized by ICC and other orgs. - We have a talented cultural sub committee who are planning wonderful events for this year, dates and details will be posted soon. Members : Rithi Bhatnagar, Rajeev Kumar, Devaang Dhruv, Shreyas Hoskere, Bonnhi Chowdry, L. Padmanaban
- Our architect is the creative Selvam Rajavelu of NJRA architects, he has wonderful ideas to make ICC a great heritage center and fun place for kids.
- Please feel free to contact us with your ideas and suggestions and very importantly do respond to the community survey.
